Pay for a student's pass from a pay link
This page is for parents. A student can ask Accepted to email you a link to pay for their pass, or for a top-up to it. You pay without an Accepted account, and what you pay for goes to the student's account.
The email
The student asks for the link in the checkout window of their own account, where they type your email address. The email names the student, the plan and the entry year, and has a button that opens the payment page. It is written in the language the student was using Accepted in when they asked. If you weren't expecting it, you can ignore it.
The link works once, and only for a limited time. The email says how long. A link for a top-up can stop working sooner, because it ends when the student's pass that it adds to ends.
Pay
- Open the link. The page names the student, the plan and the entry year, and shows the plan's full price when one is set; it does not show a discount. If a discount applies to the purchase, it is taken off when you pay.
- Tick both boxes: I confirm that I am 18 or older and, if buying for a student, that I am doing so on their behalf. and I expressly consent to immediate delivery of the digital service and acknowledge that I lose my right of withdrawal for documents and interviews already used.. They are the same two confirmations as in the student's own checkout. The button stays disabled until both are ticked.
- Press Pay securely. Accepted records that you gave both confirmations, and Paddle's payment window opens over the page. You enter your payment details there. The page notes: Payment is processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. No account needed.
- When the payment is complete, the page shows Payment complete — thank you! and says the pass is now active on the student's account. You can close the page.
What happens next
What you paid for goes to the student's account, not to an account of yours: their pass, or, for a top-up, an addition to the pass they already have. The link is then used up, and opening it again shows that it is no longer valid.
If the page shows something else
The page tells you which case you are in.
- Paid passes are not on sale yet. The page says so under Sales open soon, and that nothing has been charged. The link can't take a payment until sales open, and it may have expired by then, so ask the student to send you a new one once sales have opened.
- The link is no longer valid. The page shows This pay link is no longer valid when the link has already been paid, has expired, or isn't one Accepted recognises. The page doesn't say which. If you have already paid with this link, you don't need to do anything else. Otherwise, check with the student that it hasn't been paid, then ask them to send a new link.
- A payment is already in progress. The page shows A payment is already in progress when the link was opened for payment shortly before, for example in another tab. If that payment wasn't finished, wait a few minutes and try again.
- A top-up can't be applied. The page shows This top-up can no longer be applied when the link is for a top-up and the pass it would now add to has ended. This is rare: a top-up link stops working when its pass ends, so in that case the page usually shows that the link is no longer valid. Ask the student for a link to a new pass instead.
- There is no pass to top up. The link is for a top-up, and the student has no paid pass for it to add to. A line above the button says: Top-ups add documents to an existing pass — the student needs a Standard or Premium pass first. Ask the student for a link to a pass instead.
- Payment is temporarily unavailable. The page shows Payment temporarily unavailable when it couldn't load the payment. Try again in a few minutes.
If pressing the button fails for another reason, a short message appears above the button.
What Accepted doesn't do here
- It doesn't ask you for an account. You can pay without one, and the page has no sign-in.
- It doesn't ask for your card on its own page. You enter your payment details in Paddle's window, and Paddle takes the payment.
- It doesn't show you the student's information. A pay link shows only the student's name, the plan, the entry year and the price. To follow the student's applications, you need a parent account, which starts with an invitation.
