The parent account
This page is for parents. A parent account follows a student's applications and doesn't change them. It exists only because someone invited you for that student. If you accepted invitations for more than one student with the same account, the pages show one student at a time: they start on the student whose invitation you accepted first, and you can change student from the sidebar. If your access to a student ended and you later accepted a new invitation for them, the order counts from that new acceptance. Your choice is remembered in this browser until you sign out; on another browser or device, the pages start on the first student again.
How it starts
An invitation reaches you by email in one of two ways.
- The student invites you from their own account page.
- The student's counsellor invites you. The student has to confirm the invitation first. Until they do, Accepted sends you nothing.
The link in the email opens the invitation page. The page names the student and who invited you, and shows the date the invitation expires.
Accept the invitation
- Read the two lists, What you will see and What you won't see.
- Fill in Your full name and Create a password.
- Tick the box to confirm that you have read and agree to the privacy policy and the terms of service. The page links to both.
- Press Accept and create account.
You are signed in and land on the family dashboard, Sidebar → Family view → Dashboard. You sign in later with the email the invitation was sent to; the page shows it above the button.
If that email already has a parent account, the page says so and asks for that account's password, under Your Accepted password, instead of a name and a new password. Press Sign in and accept. A wrong password is refused and nothing changes; Forgotten your password? takes you to the password reset. The invitation never changes your name or your password.
If the link doesn't work
The invitation page tells you which case you are in.
- The invitation has expired. Ask the student or the counsellor who invited you to send a new one. A new invitation from the counsellor again waits for the student's confirmation.
- The invitation has already been used. Each link works once. If you accepted it yourself, sign in instead. If you need access again, ask the student.
- It is waiting for the student. The student hasn't confirmed the counsellor's invitation yet. Once they do, you get a separate email.
- The link isn't valid. Check that you opened the whole link from the email. If it still doesn't work, ask whoever invited you. The page shows the same message when an invitation was cancelled, or when something went wrong on Accepted's side.
The page can also refuse the form when you press the button. A student has one active parent at a time, so the invitation fails if another parent is already linked. It also fails if the address belongs to a student or counsellor account; ask for an invitation to a different address.
What you can see
The student's applications, IB profile, documents and costs are on these pages: Sidebar → Family view → Dashboard, Sidebar → Family view → Applications, Sidebar → Family view → Student profile, Sidebar → Family view → Costs and Sidebar → Family view → Documents. You can read them, not change them. More: What you can do with Accepted as a parent
Of the pages about the student, the one where you write something is your family's preferences, at Sidebar → Family view → Family preferences.
The weekly email
Your account page, Your name at the bottom of the sidebar → My Account, has one email switch, Email notifications. While it is on, this is what you get: Every Sunday evening we'll email you a summary of your child's applications: open tasks due in the next two weeks, and tasks completed and offers received in the past week. In a week with nothing to report, we send nothing.
There is no other email setting for a parent.
When access ends
The student can end your access from their account page at any time. Their counsellor can end it too. Either way, Accepted emails you that your access has ended and says who ended it.
After that, your account can no longer open that student's data. The next time it tries, Accepted signs you out and shows a page that says your access has ended.
If another student is still linked to your account, your access to them is not affected, and the email says so. If none is, the email says your account will be permanently removed 30 days later.
The consent
The invitation page asks you for one confirmation: the privacy policy and the terms of service. The other confirmations on the student's sign-up are asked of students only.
